Used Bird Cages – Available From a Variety of Places

Used Bird Cages

So, you’re in the market for used bird cages. Do you know what you’re looking for? Whether you are looking for antique,  new or  used bird cages, you still have to ask yourself the same questions. How big? What kind – something to use with a bird cage stand or something to sit on a cabinet. How quickly do you need the cage?

Once you’ve got those questions handled, it’s time to start your search. If you are serious about finding  used bird cages for very little money, there are several places for you to go.

Used Bird Cages Tips

The first is to check out area flea markets and garage sales. This can be time consuming and use a lot of gas, so you might want to confine that search to one or two sunny weekend days. Another variation of this might be to look in the pet supplies section of your local newspaper.

If you haven’t found the one you want there, check on the Internet. Try some of the sites you might never have thought of- Craigslist for example, or a listing of items in your community that are available for recycling.

If you do find one this way, check the cage for breakage and damage. You don’t want to find out your bird has injured itself brushing up against a broken bar or door hinge with a sharp edge. Examine the finish on the cage closely. You don’t want to buy a cage someone else has painted. You don’t know what kind of paint they may have used and it could prove to be toxic to your pet.

If you’ve still struck out, it’s time to move on to eBay. Almost any given day, you’re sure to find something there. Don’t get emotionally involved in the bidding process, though. You don’t want to end up spending more money on a used cage than you would have if you simply had found a cheap bird cage. And, don’t forget to add in any delivery charges to get the actual cost of the cage.

One concern in using a used bird cage is the fact that the previous bird may have been ill. To avoid this, you want to make sure you carefully clean and disinfect the bird cage. Don’t take someone else’s word that they already did that.

Remember that a wooden bird cage is fragile and could be damaged if cleaned. Perhaps those cages would be better of for use as an accessory or a table centerpiece.

Finding a used bird cage may take you some time, but you can find some great buys for your feathered friend.
